Mom dropped off some fresh sweet corn to the neighbor who in turn sent home some amazing fresh blackberries. The fresh blackberries ended up in my hands to whip up something tasty and delicious.

That is a good question, and it seems there are approximately zero blackberry recipes in any of my old cook books. I searched high and low. And then I found one fresh blackberry recipe for cake. I was all set to make it, and then…Dad requested a cobbler.

How can you do no to your Dad? I can’t…

So I opened up my cookbooks…again, and I started searching cobbler recipes.

I ended up finding a peach cobbler recipe in my Caterin’ to Charleston cookbook, so I modified it. The dessert came out amazing!So amazing, in fact, that I made this Old South Blackberry Cobbler recipe two days in a row.

This homemade blackberry cobbler recipe is simple to follow and easy to make.There are no fancy ingredients, and you probably have everything you need at home in your kitchen.

For very little effort, the result is a perfectly sweet, blackberry goodness that reminds you of something your mom or grandma would have made back in the day.

How To Make a Blackberry Cobbler from Scratch:

Step By Step Instructions

  1. Melt butter in 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
  2. Mix blackberries with sugar in a large bowl; stir and set aside.
  3. To make blackberry cobbler batter, mix flour, sugar and baking powder in a medium bowl; stir in milk and vanilla until batter forms.
  4. Pour batter directly into melted butter in the pan.
  5. Add the berry mixture to the center of the batter, trying to avoid the blackberries from being on the edge of the pan.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for 45 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Serve hot as is or topped with ice cream or whipped topping.

Storage Instructions

Let the leftovers cool completely. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or transfer to an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days. To serve, remove from the fridge, and warm individual servings in the microwave for a few seconds.
