How Much Does A Doomsday Preppers Bunker Cost? - Home Appraisals, Inc (1)I never thought I would write a blog post like this, however, the recent chatter all over the media and internet really piqued my curiosity. What am I talking about? The Mayan apocalypse, of course! No, I certainly never believed the rumors of an impending doomsday, but what I am curious about are “doomsday preppers” or people who prepare for catastrophic events by buying equipment, food and bunkers. I want to know all about the real estate aspects of living in a bunker, like the costs and square footage.

The market is still small but growing according to manufacturers. The media has certainly helped fuel anxieties and fears with frightening news reports and reality TV shows like Doomsday Preppers. People have started to invest a lot of money into unconventional shelter structures like bunkers. But, how much can that actually cost?

A minimal bunker can cost upward of $38,000, depending on how hooked-up the safe house is. A reinforced concrete bunker averages around 2,500-square-feet. One that includes kitchen gear and other amenities can cost about $60,000.

In order to receive a bunker, shipping costs a pretty penny too. It could go for about $10,000. Then, there excavation and installation, becausebunkers are buried at least 6-feet underground. This could be around $20,000 to $25,000 extra.

Other options exist too, like abandoned missile silos. An example of a missile silo property costs $2.8 million for a 210-acre Titan 1 missile site outside of Denver, Colorado.

Other doomsday condos situated in abandoned missile silos in Kansas offer some luxury options. They come with a pool, movie theater and an indoor farm. The cost? About $7 million.

So, there it is. A doomsday shelter and prepper life do not come cheap. But, is it a good investment? The market is young and built on fear, which is a dangerous premise to build an industry on. Thus, it’s hard to say how these shelters will appraise in the future, especially since the Mayan apocalypse came and went without a thud. The right buyer would certainly have to be interested, and if the market continues to grow, there may be plenty that are interested.

For me I think it would be better if you get a entire shelter built to your likings. For me mine might cost a little under a million or something but not sure that’s why i am on this site. Me if a nuclear war starts it wouldn’t be safe to go to the surface for a good amount of time. That’s why I would like a shelter that can produce its own energy food and water and oxygen to last 10 to 50 years at least. And to me I would like it to house at least 500 people. So if anyone got a estimate cost for this that would be great.

Because of our recent ballistic missile scare here in Hawaii, I am looking for some affordable bunker suggestions. It is expensive to live in Hawaii but this is our home so I would like ideas as to how to build or buy a bunker.

    Hello
I’m in the process of building my new home on 4.50 acres. My home will have a full walk out basem*nt with at least 3 sides being made with concrete blocks. I want to take the far backside of the area that will be shielded by soil, the area will be 18′ wide by 30 long, the separation walls will be 8×12″ block and that entire areas cieling will be 12″ concrete. All walls will be filled with concrete, I plan a separate area away from the main to put at least 2 Generators, and toilet will drain into my homes septic system. I have a wish list for the three car garage, build another area under it, this would give me an additional 27 x 33′ and connect it to the basem*nt with a crawl tube at least 6′ in diameter. This will be in the mountains 2 hours out of Atlanta GA. Please give me any advice recommendations that would give me as much security and protection as I can get to protect my family.
    Thank you
And I need a good suppliers of equipment used in bunkers.

I had an underground wanking den in my garden as a kid that my dad dug our at the bottom of the garden. It flooded one year after usually heavy rain. A shame a a lot of good time spent in there.
