8 DIY Bird Baths (2024)

A great way to help the birds this summer is with a creative bird bath. It's important to give our feathered friends an inviting place to drink water, eat and bathe!

1. Vintage Sink

A vintage sink would add charm to your garden and provide a great place for your feathered friends to relax this summer. The best places to find vintage sinks are at nurseries, street markets, the tip, ebay.com, and gumtree.com.

2. Vintage Garden Chair

Or how about using an old chair to make a bird bath? Remove the seat and place a suitably shaped saucer to fill in the space. This is quick and easy yet looks so unique!

You will need a saucer, wine rope, and twig wreath. The twig wreath you can make yourself out of twigs or buy from a craft store. Simply place the saucer in the twig wreath then feed the rope through and around three separate areas to ensure the saucer is balanced when hung. You can hang the bird bath from a tree branch or place it on a suitable surface in your garden.

5. Rubbish Bin Bird Bath

This bird bath will take you a grand total of 5 minutes to make! Find or buy a tin rubbish bin. First, flip the bin upside down facing the opening to the ground then place the lid upside down on top of the bin. If the lid has a handle be sure to remove it before placing the lid upside down on the bin. You can pour a bit of water and place food in a small bowl on top of the lid for the finishing touch!

6. Vintage Tea Cup

This bird bath caters to the little birds out there. This is a really precious and quirky bird bath that will add a little bit of charm to your garden but does require a little more effort and materials to make.

First, find a vintage tea cup you like. Secondly, gather the materials you will need; superglue, a metal pole or wooden post, plastic plate, and a cotton swab. Squirt some glue onto the plastic plate. Then take the cotton swab to apply the glue to the bottom of teacup and attach it to the teacup plate. Once that has dried and set, glue the stick to the centre of the teacup plate. Once that has dried and set you can place it into the ground in the desired spot in your garden.

7. Topsy-Turvy Garden Planter

Here is an opportunity to combine gardening and a bird bath all in one! You will need to find or buy a metal pole, this is easily found at a hardware store. You will need five small pot plants that have the hole at the bottom and one saucer to place at the top.

You can fill the pot plants with soil and flower, stones and or bird food. Place one pot plant flat on the ground and feed the metal pole through the hole firmly into the ground. Make sure it is sturdy and planted into the ground far enough to ensure it does not fall over. One by one place the pots onto the pole through the hole letting each one’s base lean against the one underneath it. Make sure the last pot plant you feed onto the pole is well balanced and flat to allow you to attach the saucer on top. You will want to glue the pot plant to the saucer with a strong adhesive glue like super glue or a suitable glue you have. Now that you are done you can add water and a little ornament on top for the birds!

8. Plates and Vases

This Plate and Vase bird bath is similar to the previous bird bath however it requires a little less work! For this bird bath, you will need to gather 4 ceramic plates and 3 vases of your choice. It is best to make sure the vases are the same size to ensure the bird bath can stand on its own. This should be quite easy and quick to make as you will simply glue each plate to the bottom and the stop of the 3 plates and that’s it! Use super glue or a preferred strong adhesive you have. Remember to apply the glue with a cotton swab or a brush and not your hands to avoid a disaster!
